Synai/no for Educators: A Guide to Cultivating Consent at School

Why is consent important?

Consent is a basic life skill that teaches children respect, empathy, honest communication and the expression of physical and emotional boundaries. Consent training from an early age can reduce abuse and bullying, building healthier interpersonal relationships.

The Guide

It is designed to support primary school teachers in integrating consent into the school day. It was created by Lambrini Georgiou, Education Programmes Manager, in collaboration with Primary School teachers and the interdisciplinary Genderhood team. It is a continuation of the Synai/no project and Synai/no: A Guide for Parents, Consent as a means of preventing child abuse, which focus on the prevention of abuse, gender-based violence and bullying.

How can the guide be applied in the classroom?

The guide includes short (5′-10′) and long (45′-90′) activities, which can be adapted to different ages and needs. From short discussions to more complex group processes that can be implemented as such or serve as an inspiration and trigger for starting a dialogue around consent in the classroom.

The writing and publication of the guide in digital format was designed and implemented in the framework of the project “Synai/no for teachers: a guide for the cultivation of consent skills in the learning environment” that is supported by the Programme for the Empowerment of Civil Society Organisations active in the field of Gender Equality and Women’s Empowerment, designed and implemented by Social Dynamo, the NGO Hub of the Bodossaki Foundation.
